As we enter the last few months of 2019, our schedules become full of holiday parties and other festivities. In some cases, we may even be the ones hosting the event.

That’s where Jane comes in! Consider us your new best friend and helper this holiday season. To ease your stress this season, here’s the ultimate how-to guide to become the hostess with the mostess!

PLAN AHEAD

The success behind any event is due to weeks of planning and preparation.

Don’t leave anything to the last minute and make sure you have the menu prepared weeks in advance. Also be sure to send out invites early, giving your guests plenty of time to RSVP, and giving you enough time to prep your party.

SERVE DRINKS

Last year, I walked into a Christmas party and was immediately handed a glass of warm apple cider. I felt utterly fabulous. There was no better way to be welcomed.  It’s something that I’ve taken note of for all my future holiday parties. It’ll make the guests feel good, and keep them busy while you’re orchestrating the event.

MAKE SURE THE HOUSE SMELLS GOOD

Nothing makes a home seem more welcoming and comfortable than a pleasant scent wafting through the house. With fall being the season of all things comfortable and cozy, nothing will suit the event more than stove-top potpourri. It’s the perfect way to bring the wonderful scents of fall right into your home. Find our favorite stove-top scents with Country Living here.

FOCUS ON YOUR GUESTS

There’s no reason to spend any party rushing back and forth to the kitchen and stressing out over a lack of hors d’oeuvres. Rather, make sure you spend your time with your guests. The hostess is meant to be seen enjoying the party, not hiding in the kitchen!

DRESS THE PART

There’s no need to go overboard with accessories or elaborate hairdos. Let your party and hard work speak for itself. Adopt an elegant, “less-is-more” attitude, and keep your outfit simple. Put your hair up in a pretty up-do, or pull it back in a classy half-up, half-down hairstyle, to keep loose strands out of your face. Finally, follow the eternal advice of Coco Chanel: “Before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

DISPLAY WIFI PASSWORD

To make it easier on your guests, and avoid having to memorize the password yourself, put the WIFI password on display for all your guests to see!

PRIMP YOUR BATHROOM

It’s all in the little details. It doesn’t take much to primp your bathroom up. All you need is a few lit candles and fresh hand towels.

DON’T BE AFRAID TO ASK FOR HELP

Just because your name is on the invitation and you’re the one planning the event, doesn’t mean you have to do it alone. Don’t demand that your guests provide appetizers or dessert, but consider reaching out to a good friend, a family member or even your neighbor to help out. It’ll make your life so much easier and help you enjoy the party — which is ultimately the point!
