Although many summer vacations are canceled, you can still make the most of this summer with fun, free activities your family can enjoy at home or nearby for a summer to remember. Don’t forget to visit Jane’s Summer Boutique for even more entertainment.
Set up a tent in your backyard, or sleep under the stars! Roast s’mores in your firepit (or microwave), play card games, toss a football — bring all the joy of camping to the backyard.
Bring out your inner-artist. Lay down newspaper or an old tablecloth or blanket, then crack out the paint and get messy! You can use a canvas, cardboard, wood or whatever you’ve got around the house that you don’t mind getting splattered. The kids will love unleashing their creativity and imagination.
Get exercise and have a blast with a dance party. Take turns playing your favorite songs and then have your kids play their favorite tunes. For an educational twist, teach your kids dances from different eras, like the Charleston of the 1920s, the Boot Scootin’ Boogie from the 90s or the Cha-Cha Slide of the early 2000s.
There’s nothing like getting outdoors for some fresh air and beautiful scenery, especially after months of quarantine. Check out AllTrails to find a family-friendly hike near you.
Visit the Library
Libraries are absolutely magical. Free books, free movies, free music, free classes — did someone say free? The best part about the library is that you can take everything home for hours and hours of entertainment! Check your local library’s schedule for events like crafting, storytime, yoga and more. Many libraries are also offering curbside pickup hours.
