Family ties make up the foundation of this boutique, but there’s a lot more about them you might not know… but we’ll let them fill in the blanks. What is the story behind RubyClaire Boutique?
Almost three years ago four sisters and our parents decided to really test our strength as a family and go into business together running a women’s clothing boutique! Something I don’t think any of us ever planned to do as we were growing up and dreaming of our futures! But it just so happened that our unique and individual talents merged together perfectly to form a successful company! We are so lucky to have a businessman, an office manager, a couple of style gurus, a photographer, and a marketing and money-minded person all in our immediate family!
How did you come up with the name?
One of the sisters recently had a baby about 3 months prior to starting our boutique, and her name was Claire Ruby. In discussing names, we felt like it would be special to have a family namesake, and chose to go with RubyClaire!
How long have you been running RubyClaire Boutique?
We launched our website on November 21, 2013, so just about 2.5 years!
How long have you been selling on Jane.com?
We had actually been selling with Jane.com a couple of months before even launching our website. It was the first thing we did to help us start our business!
What was your first deal on Jane.com?
Our Jane.com history doesn’t even go back far enough to see our first deal! But one of our earlier deals was our Indie Inspired Tunic, and it was a success!
How has selling on Jane.com affected RubyClaire Boutique?
Selling on Jane.com has provided us a way to immediately create a profit while trying to expand our new and growing business! It has been instrumental to our success, and to our ability to grow our own boutique!
On average, how many deals do you run on Jane.com in a given week?
We can run anywhere from 15-30 deals a week, depending on the quantities we have available in each deal.
What do you love most about being a seller on Jane.com?
Selling with Jane.com is extremely easy and they make it easy for you to learn through their webinars, and online vendor portal with tutorials and guides to help you get started. They want their sellers to be successful, and they try their best to make that happen!
What has been the biggest challenge and how did you overcome it?
Our biggest challenge initially was figuring out what items to buy that would become a success! We had some real hits and some real misses at first, but the longer we do it, the easier it becomes to know what items will be winners with Jane.com’s followers!
The other challenge we face on a daily basis is the learning curve to starting a new business! There are so many things to learn as you start out, and with the way things are constantly changing in the e-commerce world, it is important to continually learn! We are constantly taking e-courses, listening to webinars and podcasts, and talking to those who have “been there, done that” to help us to become better as a business, and as business owners.
What has been your biggest success as a business owner?
Our biggest success has been working together as a family and still loving each other! We have learned to tackle our obstacles together, without letting them come between us.
If you could give new sellers 3-5 tips of advice what would they be?
- Start out cautiously. Run a small amount of deals at minimum quantities until you figure out what works and what doesn’t.
- If you are going to run a deal with high quantities, make sure you are prepared for the shipping time and costs!
- Have great customer service! A satisfied customer is a returning customer!
- Have good photography. Excellent photos will sell your items!
